Senior Project Reflection

Part 1
  • Assessment: P, I feel like I deserve a P because I met the time required, and basically did everything asked for and well enough to deserve a P
  • I'm most proud of how my room turned out. I liked seeing all my photographs there in the room for everyone to see.
Part 2
  • I think I did well on the science fair because that I just put my all into. I feel i could have done better on my Isearch because I feel like I just wrote what came to mind, and did not dive int deep into it.
  • EQ: What is the best way to take a photograph that is beautiful and has a lasting impact? Best answer: Good lighting
  • The last month of senior work didn't really affect my best answer at all. I already had a large amount of evidence that pointed to why my best answer was my best answer, and doing those projects didn't really change that.
  • Too much stuff at the end spread it out better.
  • P, because thats whats on my report card.

For my service learning I did my digital photography ROP class. At this class we had to first learn the material the teacher taught about photography, and then we got to go out and take photos on what we learned. The usually at the end of the week or the beginning of the next we would have to turn in an assignment of what we learned. Contact name is either Jack Bohlka or our substitute teacher Mr. Daly. Interpretive:
  • The most important thing I have learned about doing my ROP class was being able to compose professional level photographs. Jack taught us the things professional photographers do when they take photographs, and had us incorporate that into our own images. Knowing these type of things about photography means that I can take professional images instead of the plain old snapshot photo.
Applied:
  • Doing this helped me with my essential question by allowing me to be in direct contact with a professional photographer, and learn from him. It was helpful because I learned specifically what is important in photography, which led me to my best answers. Also, being in the class and actually taking photos helped me see what things made a photograph more aesthetically pleasing for myself instead of someone telling me it works in an article.

Rough Draft 2 hr. Presentation

Sponge Activity:
  • The activity I am thinking about is showing the audience famous and/or images that have had a strong impact. I'll ask them to write down what stands out about the image, and how it makes them feel when looking at it.
  • Most likely I'll show them the photographs on a PowerPoint, and have the audience take out a piece of paper. Then after they finish writing ask them if their were anyone that wanted to share.
  • My hope is that the audience starts to see that images that create an impact or that are beautiful are the ones that evoke an emotion, and lighting is what creates emotion.
Introduction:
  • My EQ is: What is the best way to take a photograph that is beautiful and has a lasting impact?

  • I picked this topic because photography was something that always peaked my interest. Also, in my junior year I saw a photograph that made a huge impact on me. It affected me so much that i wanted to take images like that to hopefully one day evoke the same emotion in someone else with my photography.
  • Plan for the day is to first open up with the history of photography, and talk about famous photographers through out history. The i plan to talk about each one of my answers, and an activity in between each one to further the understanding of it. Then I will end with my conclusion.
Foundation:
  • I plan to talk about the history of photography as well as famous photographers and their photographs.
Body:
  • Answer 1: Good lighting which leads to emotion, texture, vibrancy of color, and mood in a photograph.
  • Activity 1: I plan to borrow the cameras from the digital photography ROP class to use in the activity. I 'll put the class into groups, and split up the cameras between the groups. Then I will pass then a sheet that has the different types of lighting, and ask them to take pictures based off of that. I'll come around to each group, and see how they are doing and offer my assistance if needed. At the end I'll ask each group to show me their best picture they took.
  • Answer 2: Good composition which leads to a clear message, balance, and cohesiveness throughout an image.
  • Activity 2: For this activity I will use the cameras again, and same groups. Except, this time they will take images based on what I taught them about composition, and I will put the main points on a sheet of paper for them to refer to. I will also come around and offer my assistance, and ask each group to show me the best picture they took.
  • Answer 3: A strong knowledge base of photography techniques
  • Activity 3:  Once again use the cameras, as well as the same groups. This time they will have a sheet that has different techniques they can use, and to take pictures according to that. Then at the end each group shows their best picture. 
 Conclusion:
  • My best answer is my first answer good lighting. Lighting is the essence of the photograph, ands without it there would be no photography at all. lighting is what gives that vibrancy or that moody feel to an image that attracts us all to it.

  • My product is that I now have a creative, artistic outlet I never had before. Before I did this senior project I did not have much artistic ability, which was what I always envied in people. I couldn't draw, paint, sing, or play any instrument. But now that I can take photographs that are almost on a professional level due to my ROP class, and create art with a camera; hopefully beautiful art.

independent task 2









































































































































Literal: "I the Student affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work."
I have completed photographs that some have been edited on photoshop(the ones I thought were the best), and some that have not to show how much time it takes to get one good shot. Most of the photographs have either been an assignment in  my ROP class, ones that I have taken on my own, or ones done for other assignments in school.
Interpretive: 
The first 100 pictures or so are the ones I took on my own with no assignment assigned. I just walked around and took photographs of what I thought was beautiful on my own. I would say it was about 6 hours because it was on separate occasions that I took these. The pictures of the cigarettes are ones that I edited on photoshop, and are planning on using for creative expression. The pictures of Emma were ones I took trying to get a good rule of thirds I spent at least 6 hrs trying out different subjects and people before I settled on using the images of Emma in rule of thirds. I edited them on photoshop, and had them printed out to use them in science fair. The picture of multiple pictures was an assignment I did in ROP which took about 3 classes (9 hrs.). The assignment was to take 5 pictures that represented you, and to place them on an 8x10 document on photoshop, and give it a creative title. Once that was completed we had to explain it in front of the class.  The photographs of the buildings were ones I took for our urban landscape assignment in ROP. This took about 2 classes (6 hr.) to complete. The photograph I ended up turning in was the black and white one at the top which I edited on photoshop. The last 2 photographs are the motion photography assignment we did in ROP. It took us about 3 classes (9 hrs) to finish. Motion photography is the hardest because in order to get the blur effect you have to pan with the moving object at the perfect timing. This takes a lot of practice, and just doing it over and over again until you get it right. The motion ones are the ones I took that were the best out of the bunch. Then during Ifest one of my photographs will be showed. For this we had to get a frame, our own matting, and choose a photograph we wanted to show. It took about 2 classes to pick out a photograph, and get it all framed.
Applied:
The more I take photographs the more I learn what is pleasing to the eye, and what is not. I use more techniques now, and am much better at composition and lighting then I was before. Now I am more experienced I can see what works in a photograph compared to what doesn't. This helped me answer my EQ because instead of reading what works in a photograph, I can now see that yest this type of lighting or composition works because I have the proof here in my photographs.
